Grain Industry Overview Course

Developed for anyone involved in Canada’s grain industry, Cigi's five day Grain Industry Overview course provides information about the major industry segments with a focus on both today and the future – including the challenges faced by the industry and how they are being met. Whether you work in a grain elevator, operate a farm, work in an agriculture-related job in government, or give loans or financial or agronomic advice to the grain sector this course will be of interest to you because of the sector-wide knowledge you will gain. Plan to attend!

The course features lectures and demonstrations by industry specialists from the private sector, government, universities and from Cigi – people working in the industry on a day-to-day basis who bring a currency of knowledge that is unique to Cigi’s programs.

Course highlights include:

  • A farmer’s overview on grain farming in Canada today
  • Primary and terminal grain elevator operations
  • Grain transportation – rail, truck, and ship
  • Roles of various commodity organizations – Pulse Canada, Canadian Soybean Exporters Association, Flax Canada, Canola Council of Canada
  • Roles of the Canadian Wheat Board, Canadian Grain Commission, Canadian Food Inspection Agency
  • The growing concern for food safety around the world
  • Grain Industry in Ontario and Québec
  • Animal feed and the biodiesel industry
  • Field trip to a grain elevator or flour mill

By the end of the course participants will have had the opportunity to network with each other and to better understand the interrelationships between industry, government, various international players and the influence they have on each other.

Course Fee:
